LP SmartSide is engineered wood: the look of real lap siding with far better impact resistance than vinyl or fiber cement. In a county that catches hail the way ours does, that toughness is not a small thing. It takes paint, holds crisp lines, and carries a serious manufacturer warranty. It costs more than vinyl and needs repainting eventually, like any painted product.
Vinyl siding is the value play: the lowest cost per square, essentially zero maintenance, and modern profiles look far better than the vinyl of the 90s. It's more brittle in extreme cold and can crack under big hail, but for many homes it's the reasonable dollars-per-decade winner. We'll price both and tell you which we'd put on our own house in your situation.
