The community named after a school district
Center Grove isn't a town on the map so much as a standard people hold. It's the unincorporated heart of White River Township, nearly 58,000 people whose mailing addresses say Greenwood but whose identity says Center Grove, anchored by the school campus on West Stones Crossing Road. It's also the most affluent part of Johnson County, and the houses show it: custom and semi-custom two-stories in Hunters Point, Aberdeen, and Calvert Farms, gated streets in Whitetail Woods, golf-course homes around Dye's Walk Country Club, and new construction still going in at Lone Pine Farms.
Those homes have complicated roofs. Multiple gables, long valleys, high ridgelines, designer shingles, and rooflines you can't scope honestly from the ground. Center Grove took a direct hit
On June 25, 2023, an EF2 tornado tracked through the Bluff Creek countryside on this township's south side and collapsed homes near the Bargersville-Greenwood line. Add the May 2024 and May 2025 hail that reached claim thresholds across the SR 135 corridor, and plenty of Center Grove roofs are carrying storm damage their owners haven't seen.
